Volume vs. Dimensional Weight (DIM)
Air freight charges aren’t based only on actual weight — they’re also calculated on dimensional weight (how much space your cargo takes up in the aircraft).
- Actual Weight: The scale weight of your cargo.
- Dimensional Weight: Calculated as:
Length x Width x Height ÷ DIM Factor
Carriers will charge whichever is greater — actual or dimensional weight — to ensure efficiency. This is standard across the industry.
